Program overview: Marianne Kim will present an organ recital that combines the timeless beauty of classic repertoire with a rich variety of styles and inspirations. The program will begin with a J.S. Bach masterpiece, showcasing his intricate counterpoint and unmatched expressiveness. From the English Romantic tradition, Herbert Howells offers lush harmonies and evocative colors, while works by Maurice Duruflé, Edward Elgar, and Louis Vierne highlight the depth and brilliance of French and English organ music. Marianne will also share her own arrangements, blending contemporary harmonies and rhythmic vitality to connect historical traditions with modern sensibilities. In celebration of Black History Month, the program features music honoring African-American heritage and its profound influence on the world of music. Additionally, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day, one of George Gershwin’s beloved love songs will be included. This diverse selection is designed to showcase the organ’s versatility and to provide an engaging and heartfelt musical experience for all listeners.
Free parking – surface lots and street parking available. St. Michael Church is one short block from the Wheaton Metra Station and downtown Wheaton which offers several good restaurants for dinner after the concert.
